EU CBAM Calculator

Check if your goods fall under the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and estimate your certificate cost in seconds.

CBAM Cost Estimator

Enter CN/HS codes, country of origin and import quantities (tonnes) to estimate your EU CBAM certificate obligation using the official country-specific default values. Electricity is entered in megawatt-hours (MWh).

Select the country of production. Country-specific defaults (Annex I, IR (EU) 2025/2621 as corrected) apply; unlisted countries use the “Other countries” table.

Art. 9 deduction: carbon price paid in the origin country × embedded tCO2e is subtracted from the obligation. Only recognised systems are admissible (draft implementing act proposes South Korea's K-ETS).

No credit card required. Estimates are indicative only.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my goods are covered by the EU CBAM?

Enter your 8-digit CN/HS code into the free VGTC CBAM calculator. It covers cement, iron & steel, aluminium, fertilisers, hydrogen and electricity (CN 2716 00 00, measured in MWh). Ferro-alloys (Chapter 7202), ferrous scrap (7204) and aluminium scrap (7602) are outside CBAM scope.

What is the first CBAM declaration deadline?

The first annual CBAM declaration and certificate surrender is due by 30 September 2027 (for 2026 emissions) — extended from 31 May by the Omnibus Regulation (EU) 2025/2083. From Q1 2027, authorised declarants must also hold certificates covering at least 50% of cumulative embedded emissions at each quarter-end.

How much does a CBAM certificate cost?

The certificate price is published quarterly by the Commission based on the EU ETS auction price. The calculator uses the latest published price (€75.28 per tonne for Q2 2026) and applies the correct CBAM factor for your import year.

Can I claim a deduction for carbon prices paid in the origin country?

Yes — Article 9 CBAM allows a deduction for carbon prices paid in the country of production. The calculator lets you enter the price paid and automatically subtracts it from your obligation. Only recognised systems are admissible; a draft implementing act proposes South Korea's K-ETS.
